Make Your Fleet More Sustainable

Reducing the carbon footprint of your fleet doesn’t need to be time consuming or expensive. Our Clean Air Partnership allows fleet managers to take control of their sustainability programme by offsetting CO₂.

Woodland Creation Projects For Carbon Offsetting

Cars and light commercial vehicles are heavy contributors to UK carbon emissions. To combat this, The Fuel Store has partnered with Forest Carbon to enable our customers to support certified UK woodland creation projects that will mitigate the CO2 emissions from their business journeys.

Carbon Offsetting Projects

Balmedie Farm

Based in Aberdeenshire, this project is a predominantly native broadleaf establishment, with a coniferous element both for timber but also as a shelter belt for the native trees. The project has seen 14,510 trees planted over 6.7 hectares, offsetting 2.304 tonnes of C02.

Back Greenriggs

The project, part of a larger group at Lowther, represents the conversion of arable and grazing land to sustainable forestry. The project offers considerable benefits for wildlife, water quality in local rivers, and downstream flood mitigation.

Keltie Phase 2

The UK is the world’s second largest importer of timber. This project saw the planting of 23,500 trees to meet the UK Government's call for more timber, and is vital in ensuring a sustainable supply of wood for construction and other uses.

Doddington North

Doddington North is the largest planned new productive forest to be planted in England in the last 25 years. The forest will cover an area of around 350 hectares in Northumberland, with 36,985 trees funded by The Fuel Store and our customers.

International Projects

Most of the projects we support are UK based. Outside of the UK our Clean Air Partnership has supported a range of nature based projects, all certified under the VERRA Verified Carbon Standard. Projects include community agro-forestry in Guatemala and Peru, rainforest protection in Guatemala and Peru, and sustainable timber in Uruguay.

All Your Clean Air Partnership Questions Answered

What is Carbon Offsetting?

Carbon offsetting allows companies and individuals to compensate for their greenhouse gas emissions by funding equivalent carbon dioxide savings elsewhere. This is typically done by investing in projects that either reduce or capture CO2 emissions, such as renewable energy, reforestation, and energy efficiency projects. At The Fuel Store, we focus on reforestation.

How does the Clean Air Partnership work?

The Fuel Store recognises that travel and transport has an impact on the environment. When you join our Clean Air Partnership, we calculate your carbon footprint based on the UK government’s greenhouse gas conversion tables. From this, we know how much carbon your business needs to offset, and we work with our friends at Forest Carbon to provide carbon credits. These credits go towards projects that reduce CO2 in the atmosphere, allowing you to offset your environmental impact.

Why should I offset the carbon produced by my fleet?

Carbon offsetting is particularly useful for balancing out emissions from activities like travel, which may be difficult to eliminate entirely.

How do you verify that the projects are genuine?

Our Clean Air Partnership is delivered in conjunction with an experienced and trustworthy partner. All of their woodland and peatland projects are certified under the Woodland Carbon Code & Peatland Code. These are UK specific standards that ensure each carbon credit generated represents a removal or avoidance of one tonne of CO2. Under the WCC & PC projects are validated by a third party certification body, following completion of planting (woodlands) or restoration work (peatland), and verified on an ongoing basis. The WCC & PC also ensure that each project meets the core principles of carbon offsetting – additionality, conservatism, and permanence.

Does the Clean Air Partnership make me carbon neutral?

Carbon offsetting can be part of a strategy to become carbon neutral, which means balancing out your total carbon emissions with an equivalent amount of carbon savings elsewhere. However, to be truly sustainable, it is also essential to reduce your emissions wherever possible. When it comes to fleet management, there are a number of ways to be more sustainable, including switching to an EV or mixed fleet, using software such as Fuel AI to identify trends and improve fleet performance, ensuring regular maintenance, and using telematics to plan efficient routes and ridicule idling. Our energy team can also point you in the direction of green business energy suppliers.

What are the business benefits of carbon offsetting?

Many companies use carbon offsetting as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies, to meet sustainability goals, and to comply with regulations. Offsetting can help businesses mitigate the environmental impact of their operations and enhance their brand reputation.
