FuelConnect: Real Time Vehicle Tracking

Our telematics system, FuelConnect, gives fleet managers real-time visibility of their entire fleet. By gathering and analysing data on vehicle location, speed, fuel consumption, engine health, and driver behaviour, fleet managers can optimise their fleet, improve safety and save money.

What Is Telematics?

Fleet telematics uses a combination of GPS technology and onboard vehicle diagnostics to monitor, track, and manage cars, vans, lorries and whole fleets of vehicles. In doing so, fleet managers – and individual drivers – can access real time fleet data, make informed business decisions, and reduce operational costs.

Vehicle Efficiency

Use data on fuel consumption, driving speed and braking habits to optimise your fleet’s efficiency.

Location Tracking

Track vehicle locations and delivery times in real time, allowing fleet managers to relay up-to-date information to customers.

Improve Safety

FuelConnect prioritises driver safety and optimises business operations by providing real-time data and up-to-date information.

Prevent Theft

Tracking accelerometer, external power voltage and engine RPM can help to identify unauthorised use or theft.

Reduce Costs

Track driver behaviours. Excellent cross-fleet scores can result in savings of up to 70% on insurance premiums.

Telematics Features

Improve Fleet Efficiency

Using GPS tracking combined with live traffic data, drivers and fleet managers can optimise route planning, reduce idle time and fuel consumption, and schedule and reroute drivers more effectively.

Monitor Driver Behaviour

Telematics systems can be used to monitor driver behaviour, including speed, harsh braking and other driving habits. By identifying risky practices, fleet managers can implement driver training programmes and improve safety across the fleet.

Negotiate Insurance Premiums

The Fuel Store’s telematics system uses stored data and in-built system analysis to score each driver. Data can be used to establish and maintain consistently high scores across the fleet and then shared with insurance companies to reduce premiums by up to 70%.

Boost Compliance

Telematics systems can help fleet managers comply with regulations related to driver hours, such as the health and safety at work act, as well as DVSA vehicle inspections. They can also help with supporting and evidencing sustainability commitments by providing actionable insights about fleet emissions.

Improve Fleet Maintenance

Our Telematics solution enables you to stay in control of vehicle maintenance by tracking service history and scheduling timely reminders. With real-time fault code detection, you can catch vehicle defects early and receive instant alerts, allowing for prompt assessments and repairs.

All Your Telematics Questions Answered

What is telematics?

Telematics uses on board diagnostics and GPS tracking data to track and manage vehicles. Using a telematics device installed in the vehicle, data such as GPS location, speed, faults, trip distance, idle time, harsh braking and fuel consumption can be collated and sent to the cloud. Using smart data analysis, our telematics software can use this information to identify trends and efficiencies that will optimise fleet efficiency.

How does telematics track vehicles?

Fleet telematics is a combination of telecommunications and informatics (using computer systems to collect, store and manage data). It works by collecting data from vehicle sensors, GPS systems, and onboard computers, and analysing the data to provide actionable insights for fleet managers.

What is a telematics device?

Also known as a telematics box, a telematics device is a small box that plugs into your vehicle. All vehicles built in the last 30 years or so have an on-board diagnostics port (OBD II Port), which is usually located underneath the steering wheel. The telematics device simply plugs into the OBD II Port, making it easy to install (no mechanic or technician required!). As soon as the telematics device is installed, it will start recording information which will be uploaded to our system for analysis.

Our smart, waterproof GNSS tracker with Bluetooth connectivity and an internal li-ion backup battery can be easily mounted on a car battery, ensuring reliable performance even in harsh conditions.

How does telematics improve my fleet management?

Telematics provides fleet managers with information about vehicle efficiency, location and fuel efficiency which can be used to optimise your fleet’s efficiency. It can track driver behaviour such as braking and accelerometer data, helping you to identify opportunities to improve driver safety, optimise fuel usage and reduce careless driving.

Can using telematics save me money?

Yes. Data from telematics systems can be used to optimise route management, reduce idle time and improve driver behaviour - all of which can reduce fuel usage. It can also be used to gather data on driver behaviours which can be used to actively lower insurance premiums.

Do I have to have a Fuel Card from you to access telematics?

No. You can access our telematics solution as a stand-alone product, with no need to have one of our fuel cards. However, having a fuel card can save you money on fuel, and time on administration, so we would recommend browsing our fuel card solutions.

Does The Fuel Store’s telematics solution work on EVs?

Sadly, our current telematics solution is not suitable for EVs. It is something we hope to add in the future. If you’re an EV driver, please consider our EV charge card, and check back soon for updates on our telematics product.
